Sample Disposition and Storage

Tell us what to do with your samples when the work is complete.

Every sample you send us needs a disposition: what happens to the physical material after the project is complete.

Disposition Options

  1. Return to Customer We repack your samples using the same clean-handling practices described above and ship them back to the return address you provide on the submission form. Samples are returned as-tested.  Return shipping is billed to a customer's shipping account.
  2. Disposal Your samples enter Brighton's waste stream once your project closes. Samples cannot be recovered after disposal. This is typically the right choice for material, and it is also our default when no disposition is specified.
  3. Documented Destruction Additional fees may apply, and this option requires additional lead time. Select this option only if your samples are subject to a quality or contractual requirement that scrapped material be destroyed and the destruction evidenced. We physically destroy the material so it cannot be identified or reused, and issue a Certificate of Destruction signed by the technician who performed the work and a witness.
  4. Retention by Brighton Science We keep your samples after your project closes. Retained samples become the property of Brighton Science and may be used for reference purposes such as method development, comparison against future submissions, and instrument demonstration. Retained samples remain subject to the same confidentiality obligations as your data — we will not identify you as the source of a sample or disclose its origin. Choose this option if you have no need for the material back, no requirement that it be destroyed. Samples that are retained by Brighton Science cannot be used for a future lab project.

Storage

In some cases Brighton Science may need to store a sample, up to 1 year, for another subsequent project. If this is the case specify a store until date less than a year.  When the Store Until date matures, Brighton Science will disposition the sample based on the requested disposition above.  Store Until is not typically used or required.
