Frequently Asked Questions: Making the Switch from Five-Target to Three-Target Performance Check Cards
Answers to questions regarding the new and improved performance check process available to BConnect customers
- Why is the performance check changing?
To improve your experience. The new routine is easier, faster, and can be executed in cleanroom environments.
- What is a performance check?
A series of guided measurements on a known surface (Performance Check Card). We use it to verify the current performance of a BC Mobile device against its annual calibration data. Think of it as “zeroing” the device to the known value of the surface we provide, ensuring optimal accuracy.
- What differences will I notice?
- The new performance check routine will utilize compound deposition to rapidly deposit and measure 5 drops on a single target, rather than measuring 1 drop on each of five targets.
- You will need to hold the measurement head as steady as possible throughout each 5 drop deposition sequence, rather than moving between targets for each drop. Movement of the head during this time may influence the performance check outcome.
- The cards will look and feel different. They are now easier to handle without contaminating the measurement surface, have a longer shelf life, and are compliant with cleanroom requirements.
- How long does it take?
On average, the new performance check will take a little over a minute to complete. Your device may initiate additional purges or ask you to perform additional checks – this is more common for devices that have recently experienced significant changes in pressure (travel) or that are not used regularly.
- How often do I need to do a performance check?
Daily checks are recommended. Your BC Mobile device is programmed to prompt users to perform a check every 24 hours. Skipping performance checks may result in reduced accuracy.
- Are the performance check cards reusable?
Performance check cards are one-time use only. A single card contains three measurement targets and may be used for up to three compound depositions (if required) as part of a single performance check.
- What do I do with the five-target performance check cards I already purchased?
Brighton Science will send replacement cards for any five-target performance check cards you may already have. Please contact service@brighton-science.com to initiate this process.
- How do I make the switch?
Scanning the QR code on a new performance check card will automatically trigger your device to switch over to the new routine. There is nothing else you need to do, but please note that after switching the device will no longer recognize five-drop performance check cards if you try to scan them.
